ILLUSTRATION IN MOTION

MAKING LINES MOVE

Illustration and video are not separate disciplines — they are complementary storytelling tools. My background in visual art and narrative design positions me to bring a distinctive illustrated dimension to video projects that benefit from a more handcrafted aesthetic.

FEATURED PROJECT

ROYAL CANIN VETERINARY TRAINING MODULES

For Royal Canin Pet Foods, illustration served as the primary visual language for a series of scenario-based training modules designed for veterinary professionals. Each module followed fictional veterinary staff through realistic, challenging clinical interactions, combining professional development content with empathetic, character-driven storytelling.

The visual approach was built around evolving sketch animation: line work animated progressively into frame, revealing characters, environments, and narrative moments in a hand-drawn aesthetic. Voice performance supported the visuals as scenes developed, with AI-assisted animation applied to hand-illustrated artwork to add naturalistic movement and environmental realism.

In total, five modules were produced, covering topics including veterinarian burnout, difficult client interactions, and cognitive distortion in high-stress clinical environments. Decision points throughout each scenario highlighted opportunities where Royal Canin products could meaningfully improve both pet health outcomes and the emotional experience of the pet owner.

Production Overview

Illustration
Each storyboard introduced a new set of main characters that required their own illustrated sequences. Every sequence was drawn to reflect the specific scenario and interaction being presented. While the characters varied from module to module, visual consistency within each story was carefully maintained, creating a cohesive scenario that viewers could easily follow and relate to.

Aftereffects
Individual illustrations were masked and revealed in Adobe After Effects, timed precisely to the voiceover and aligned with the actions of each character in the scene. In select moments, subtle lip-sync animation was added to enhance the realism of the drawings. Each animated sequence followed the storyboard structure and was built as a series of individual compositions that flowed together to support the narrative.

Audio
The voiceover audio was edited and mastered to match the pacing of the storyboard sequences. Additional audio editing was required to adjust timing and delivery for individual characters. Sound effects and atmospheric music were layered in to add emotional depth, suspense, and narrative engagement throughout the modules.
